OK maybe I should explain that title. Not that I haven't heard that line before... but it does not apply here. Autumn in the Hill Country means a lot of deer. During this season we do see several deer in the yard and the neighborhood. Eva sees them and shouts out, "Mom! A deer friend!" Typically, as soon as they see our movements in the house, they will throw their tails in the air and take off. Today was a bit different...

First, this guy comes ambling out of the trees. He is larger and chubbier than your typical Texas Whitetail. He looks more like an Ohio or PA dude. He approaches the house and decides to graze a bit in the shade. Eva and I watch him a bit. I am on the phone with Holly but she does not fully appreciate my excitement. Next I call my Dad. I know he will appreciate a close up sighting of an 11 point buck. He does. I grab the camera and start to shoot. I know at any moment he will sense me and take off.

Instead, he settles in for a little siesta in the shade. I am yammering away and clicking away just a few feet away and he could care less. He is either scratching or just plugging his ear to drown me out.

A few hours later I decide to see if our "deer friend" is still around. I look out the side window to see if he is across the yard. I nearly scream when he pops right up in front of me! He had moved to the new shady spot. We can not believe he is still around. He just stands and looks at the girls as they look at him. He does seem quite interested in Eva's cookie. I think he may have come inside if I had opened the door.

I sat sown and had a chat with him. I said, "You are lucky my Dad is not here. He would be just too tempted by your 'nice rack' ". His reply is in the picture below.
